Who is this program for?
This group is for anyone in the gender diverse community who would like a space to practice and/or further explore making changes to their voice in a supportive group setting.
Groups are open to any gender expansive folks who have explored making gender affirming changes to their voice and communication either on their own or with the guidance of an SLP or voice coach. You do not have to have previously participated in one on one voice therapy at speech IRL.
What will happen during these meet-ups?
- Whole group voice warm-up and exercise led by Michelle.
- Sharing out what’s been helpful with meeting personal voice/communication goals or any voice obstacles and how they were overcome.
- Q & A where participants are encouraged to provide feedback. Participants can ask questions specifically to the SLP or other group members.
- If time allows, Michelle will lead a facilitated discussion activity which will be different each meeting (small or whole group depending on number of participants)
About the facilitator
Michelle Roberts, MS, CCC-SLP is a clinician at speech IRL, a speech therapy practice and communications consulting firm in Chicago, IL. Her areas of specialty include gender affirming voice and communication, voice disorders, and professional/executive communication coaching. Additionally, she provides training and coaching to individuals on topics related to communicative diversity and gender based issues in workplace communication. Michelle also works as a speech-language pathologist/ voice specialist at Chicago Nasal & Sinus Center, where she works on a multidisciplinary team serving patients with voice and upper respiratory disorders.
Location information
Due to the conditions of COVID-19, this group event is being held outside at a public park in a Chicago neighborhood. Attendees will be sent specific location details after they have signed up.
